Children's clothing exports need to pay attention to rope safety hazards

In the past two months, China's export of apparel products was recalled by the US CPSC and EU REPAX in 35 cases, of which 28 cases involved children's clothing rope safety issues, accounting for 80%, mainly due to the presence of suffocation injury or injury.

There are mainly belts in clothing, such as belts, ties, bows, buckles, and so on. For children's clothing, improperly designed strings have hidden safety problems. Mainly manifested in: First, the headgear and neck straps of children's clothing may cause choking and suffocation injuries to children, especially infants, due to unconscious winding or accidental hooking, such as when a child slides down a slide Collars or knots will fall in the gap at the top of the slide. When the child is pulled by a pull rope and hangs on a slide, the pull rope will tightly wind the jacket around the neck, causing children to suffocate; second, the long straps on the chest, waist and other parts may cause accidents during children's playing. The hooks cause harm to the children.

Developed countries such as Europe, America and Japan have issued relevant mandatory regulations for potential harm to children's lanyards. For example, the European Union’s EN 14682 standard “Safety rules for children’s clothing—children's clothing lanyards” and CPSC released “The tightness of children's blouses”. The Guidelines, Japan's "Product Liability Law for the Textile Industry" and other issues have made clear requirements for the safety of children's apparel ropes.

To this end, Wujiang Inspection and Quarantine Department made recommendations: First, pay attention to the laws and regulations of exporting countries, keep abreast of the latest changes in regulations, avoid the risk of ropes leading to foreign notifications, export returns, trade claims, etc.; second, establish risk predictions. System, risk assessment of product design samples, strict control of product development processes, reduction of quality due to design errors leading to out of control or violation of French laws and regulations. Third, it is recommended that China’s relevant regulatory authorities should improve the requirements for children’s clothing and apparel in China, regulate the manufacturing practices of domestic manufacturers, and ensure the safety and health of children and infants in China.
