Wenzhou Footwear Base "advanced" national demonstration base

Recently, the State Ministry of Commerce announced the list of the first batch of national professional demonstration bases for foreign trade transformation and upgrading. Among the country's first batch of 59 "national professional models for the transformation and upgrading of foreign trade," Wenzhou shoe bases are on the list.

It is reported that the national professional demonstration base for foreign trade transformation and upgrading is mainly aimed at industrial agglomeration areas in a specific industry, involving agricultural products, light industrial products, textiles, medicine and health products, professional chemicals, and new types of raw materials. The potential and technical average rank among the top domestic counterparts. In 5 to 10 years, China will establish a large number of demonstration bases with strong export effects and obvious industrial advantages, which are divided into three types: professional, enterprise, and base. Since February of this year, the Ministry of Commerce has carried out the identification of the first batch of national professional demonstration bases for transformation and upgrading of foreign trade. A total of 94 base declaration materials have been submitted across the country, and 59 bases have finally come to the fore, among which there are 5 bases in Zhejiang. List, Wenzhou shoe bases are on the list.

Wenzhou City has a long history of shoe leather manufacturing. Far in the Southern Song Dynasty, Wenzhou had shoe-making techniques. By the 1920s, it had formed a complete system of handmade shoes and leather. In the 1970s, Wenzhou shoe industry formed a prototype of the cluster. In 1987, the “fire Wenzhou shoes” incident caused the Wenzhou shoe company to embark on the development path of quality and tree brand. In recent years, Wenzhou has won the reputation of regional brands such as “China Shoes Capital”, “China Leather Capital” and “China Casual Shoes Production Base”, and its market share is the highest among its counterparts in the country.

With the continuous upgrading of industrial scale and production technology, the total industrial output value of the footwear industry in Wenzhou is also rising year after year. Last year, the total industrial output value was 78.0 billion yuan, an increase of 11.4% year-on-year, and the export of footwear products was 680 million pairs, with a total value of 3.74 billion US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 35.78%, covering nearly 150 countries and regions in the world. In the first seven months of this year, the total value of export footwear products in the city reached 2.606 billion U.S. dollars, a year-on-year increase of 28.7%.

At present, the "Wenzhou-made" regional brand has already started. In foreign trade, a large number of leading companies such as Kangnai, Dongyi, Juyi, and Jindi have changed from "finding orders" to "selecting orders." For instance, in the first seven months of this year, Jindi Footwear exports reached 85.23 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 33.8% over the same period of last year.

It is also known that for the first batch of national professional demonstration bases for transformation and upgrading of foreign trade, the state will adopt special tax subsidies and other policies to nurture and build the bases on the list and build it into a new growth point for China’s foreign trade exports.
